Case Study
Head of children’s services – Darren Mutter
I actually chose to work in children’s services after doing a work placement as a trainee social worker almost 20 years ago.
I chose a placement I thought would be the biggest challenge and just found that I absolutely loved working with children and families.
Thereafter I chose my final placement and I’ve never left.
The reward comes from seeing families succeed, seeing children develop in safe homes with safe care arrangements.
On a day to day basis, the head of service’s responsibility is to ensure the department are delivering on legislative expectations and regulatory expectations in respect of supporting families and children.
Dip your toe in the water and try a voluntary group, a community group, anything that involves you supporting other people.
Give it a try, that might be all you need, the final push to get you into social care or social work.
