Art - Drawing & painting

To develop the potential which everyone has to draw well from observation. To teach methods of drawing which are useful for oil painting and others which relate to water colour painting. To learn oil, acrylic, gouache and water colour techniques and make finished paintings in these media.

Art - Painting and drawing

The course aims to introduce a range of painting and drawing techniques to develop individual skills. It will cover the basics in painting and drawing including composition and colour. Classes will be supported with examples of other artists' work to further advance your own art work.

Ideal for people who have bought a digital camera and would like to learn the basics. This beginners course teaches the many basic technical aspects of digital photography, including camera modes, focal length, composition rules, white balance and finding your way around the menus. The course will then cover uploading your images to the computer. There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You must have access to a digital camera for the course

Digital scrapbooking

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements - learn how to design, create and print a layered digital scrapbooking page, including vignetting, cropping and tearing. PRE REQUISITES: Should have attended Photoshop Elements - introduction or have a basic knowledge of Photoshop Elements.

To discover the basic skills of glass painting using two different medium and a range of simple techniques. Creating an outline image on glass. Using alcohol ink to create an abstract design. Painting the image. Decorating the abstract design.

Microsoft Office skills

Suitable for those who have limited computer skills or have completed an introductory IT course. On this course you can learn how to use word processing software, create and use spreadsheets, use a database, create a slide show or create posters and newsletters in Desktop Publishing. You will be using the Microsoft Office 2013 suite of programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher. You will gain an accreditation for this course and it is very suitable if you are thinking of getting a job or want to refresh your IT skills before returning to work.

This course is designed to give students a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals in photography. Aimed at both film and digital photographers these interactive sessions cover everything from lighting and composition to new digital photographic techniques.

Photography - Taking better pictures for beginners

This course is aimed at beginners and is designed to give students a comprehensive overview of basic photography, covering the basic elements of photography from lighting to composition. Learners must have their own DSLR camera and compatible memory cards. During course iPads may be required for further processing images - please discuss this with the tutor in your first lesson.

Pilates improves posture, tones the body and improves flexibility. This is a gentle form of exercise working on the central core of the body.

'Stretch & Flex' is a gentle low-impact Pilates-based class for all age-groups using focussed breathing techniques to support the exercises; this brings the added benefit of increased lung capacity, increased body-awareness and lowering of stress levels.

A wide sample of poetry, past and present, read and appreciated as a group.

Pottery - clay work

A chance to meet, mingle and work alongside other creative thinkers. Bring your art materials, paper and sketchbooks and an open mind about transferring some of your ideas into clay work. Make tiles, stencils and 3D models to explore design and implications of making a similar design in clay. Suitable for beginners and those with more experience. Using the knowledge learnt through practical skills and demonstration over the course, in the last two weeks the objective is to roll a clay slab, draw your image directly into the clay, cut out and join to make it 3D. Colour your model with under glaze and oxides. The cost of clay, kiln firings, coloured slips, underglaze and oxides has been included in the cost of this course.

Pottery - mixed ability

To encourage and develop an interest and enjoyment in working with clay, and to develop a variety of techniques and skills in slipcasting, throwing, hand building and glazing.

Printmaking - introduction

To develop simple techniques of print making without a press to include monoprint, card, screenprint, lino and collagraph.
