Art - Drawing & painting

To develop the potential which everyone has to draw well from observation. To teach methods of drawing which are useful for oil painting and others which relate to water colour painting. To learn oil, acrylic, gouache and water colour techniques and make finished paintings in these media.

Art - Impressionism and its techniques

This workshop can be completed in oils or acrylics and will explore the use of bright, broken strokes of colour to create the effects of sunshine and weather which impressionists so skilfully conveyed.

Art - Mastering portraits

This workshop will cover the basics of portraiture, the importance of drawing, and bringing these skills to bear in effective portrait work.

Art - Oil painting

This course is for those who wish to learn about oil painting. The subjects covered include: materials, preparing the paper, masses, values, light & shadow, atmospheric perspective, colour theory and composition. During the first term the subject matter will be still life, the second term will cover portraits and the final term landscapes. It is advisable to attend all three terms to have the full benefit of this course, but not essential if you have prior experience.

Canva

This is a 5 week introductory course to use the Canva website. You will be guided through setting up a free account and to using some of the many elements of the programme.

Creative writing

This course is designed to develop skills and confidence in creative writing. Poetry, short story writing, the novel, script writing and all aspects of fiction and non-fiction writing may be studied.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid

QA Level 3 award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid. Some of the topics covered will be CPR; choking; seizures; minor injuries; bleeding

Microsoft Office skills

Suitable for those who have limited computer skills or have completed an introductory IT course. On this course you can learn how to use word processing software, create and use spreadsheets, use a database, create a slide show or create posters and newsletters in Desktop Publishing. You will be using the Microsoft Office 2016 suite of programs including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Publisher. You will gain an accreditation for this course and it is very suitable if you are thinking of getting a job or want to refresh your IT skills before returning to work.

Personal Licencing

This accredited qualification is ideal for those working in or preparing to work in any industry that involves the retail sale of alcohol. It is a requirement for anyone who wishes to hold a personal licence. This qualification covers the main requirements of the Licensing Act 2003 and the legal responsibilities of a personal licence holder. Anyone wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol by retail on licensed premises must hold a personal licence. Subjects covered include purpose and period of validity of a personal licence, the application process and legal duties of a personal licence and licensing law.
