Background

The Pembrokeshire Dementia Champions Forum was set up by the Social Care Wales Workforce Development Partnership (SCWWDP) as a response to the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales’s review into the quality of life and care of older people living in care homes in Wales entitled ‘A Place to Call Home?’ and subsequent requirement that ‘all care homes have at least one member of staff who is a Dementia Champion’.

SCWWDP consulted with residential care managers and identified that support was needed for those in the role of Dementia Champion, it was suggested that SCWWDP would facilitate a Dementia Champion Forum as a way of meeting this need.

The first forum was held in April 2016 and was attended by 40 Dementia Champions and managers from residential and nursing homes, learning disabilities and domiciliary care agencies.
