Libraries Week 2018

Celebrate everything that’s great about libraries at a week of special events and activities this October.

Libraries Week (8th-13th October) is a chance to discover the range of things on offer at your local library.

Did you know that libraries across the county are free to join, offer free access to PCs, free Wi-Fi and free events?

Throughout Libraries Week, a number of regular events will be taking place including the popular Baby Rhyme Times and weekly Gateway to Computing sessions, offering support with anything from iPads to smartphones.

Several libraries in Pembrokeshire will also be hosting a range of special Libraries Week events, including an evening with BBC Wales Political Correspondent Daniel Davies, a talk on ‘The Greatest Knight’ William Marshal, a Minecraft Festival ... and much, much more!

“We have a brilliant programme of activities during Libraries Week that we hope will bring the community together,” said Libraries Manager Anita Thomas.

“There is so much on offer and all of our services are designed for local residents, so pop in for a warm welcome and see what your local library can do for you.”

Libraries Week is the annual showcase of the best that UK libraries of all kinds have to offer, encouraging everyone to discover their library in the second week of October.

New Haverfordwest Library, Gallery and Tourist Information

In January 2017, work started on an ambitious scheme to transform the former Riverside indoor market in Haverfordwest into a new County Library and Gallery.

The new facility will provide tourism information; a Life Hub zone - with access to financial and health information - as well as a coffee shop and a children's ‘play and discover' library.

Meanwhile, the Gallery will exhibit works of art from the National Library's collections.

It is anticipated that the flagship project will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of Haverfordwest by enticing visitors to the top quality exhibitions which will be displayed on site.

The project is the result of an exciting partnership between Pembrokeshire County Council, the National Library of Wales and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

Funding for the scheme includes over £285,000 from the Welsh Government to develop the new County Library and £90,000 towards the gallery fit-out from the Wolfson Foundation - a charity supporting science, medicine, the arts and education.

Locally-based contractors, WB Griffiths and Son Limited, began enabling work in December 2016 and it is planned that the new facility will be open the latter part of 2018.

Please revisit this page for up to date information.

What's On
