why foster with us?

support and rewards

finance and allowances

We know that beginning the fostering journey is a challenge. While you may already have support and help from family members, we want to make sure that you’re financially equipped to flourish too. The monetary support we offer will be based on aspects such as how many children you foster and for how long.

For example, right now in Pembrokeshire, there are foster carers who receive between £376 and £719 per fortnight.

other rewards

We offer a lot more than just supporting your finances. Here are some of the best perks available to you with Foster Wales Pembrokeshire.

  • Membership of The Fostering Network.
  • Specialist advice and consultation from a dedicated psychology service.
  • Peer mentoring.
  • Extensive pre-approval training and regular training opportunities.
  • Discounted family Pembrokeshire Leisure Pass.

the foster wales national commitment

There are 22 Local Authorities in Wales and each one has signed up to the Foster Wales National Commitment. This is an agreed package of training, support and rewards for everyone to have access to. So, by joining us you’ll benefit from:

A happy family laughing together

one team

We stress that you’re never alone with Foster Wales, and that really is the case. We are one team working together to do the best for local children. One service that gives advice, shares ideas and learns so much along the way.

Because we’re the Local Authority, we hold the ultimate responsibility for every child in our care. It’s not simply our passion but our purpose to do the very best for them.

learning and development

All the benefits we offer are consistent across each Local Authority. With that in mind, the same goes for our wide range of training opportunities. They are tried and trusted in developing new foster carers to become the best they can be.

We provide all the tools and training to enable you to fully meet the needs of the children in your care. To be confident and capable. To ultimately enjoy being part of this amazing adventure.

To help us understand where you are and what you might need help with, we’ll set you up with an individual training plan. It’s a great way to track progress, see how far you’ve come as well as plan for the future!

support

The skilled and experienced members that make up Foster Wales make sure you have everything you need, every step of the way.

Whether that’s pier or professional support or a mix of the two. It can be really useful listening to the experiences of others in your position, while then getting that professional support to solve any issues you might be having. It’s all about working together, and it’s what we do best.

fostering community

There are plenty of opportunities to connect with other foster families at our events and activities. These can be a great way to relax, have fun and form relationships that can last a lifetime.

Making new friends, forming new bonds and learning new things is all in the process.

When you join Foster Wales, your membership to The Fostering Network (TFN) and the Association for Fostering and Adoption (AFA) Cymru is paid for by us.

These organisations specialise in offering even more guidance, advice, education and support to those who need it. With a whole host of other benefits too, this is important to us and you, that’s why we have it covered.

shaping the future

Where we’ve come from is an important thing to remember. But it’s where we plan to go that Foster Wales specialises in. We can’t change the challenging history some of us may have experienced. But together we can, and will, shape the future into whatever we want it to be.

With us, you will always be listened to. A national operation, acting locally to get what’s best for carers and children alike. We can’t learn unless we listen, so anything you have to share with us we welcome with open arms, and ears!

In return we will help you however we can. This dynamic is what we want for our organisation and it’s what we want for our foster families. Together we can shape the future for these children. A future that ensures the safety and happiness for years to come.
