Transport for Day Opportunities
We expect most people to make their own arrangements for transport to and from a Day Opportunity. This might be:
- Using your Motability vehicle.
- Getting a lift from a family member or friend.
- Travelling by public or community transport (see below for more information).
- Paying for transport from benefits you receive to support your mobility needs, or using a bus pass or concessionary pass if you are eligible for one.
- Walking or cycling, if you can do so safely.
Some Day Opportunity providers may offer transport to their activity. There may be a charge for this - please ask your provider when you book the activity.
If you still need help with transport to a Day Opportunity after all these options have been considered, we may be able to arrange it on your behalf. This will involve an assessment from the Day Opportunities team to agree your transport needs. Please discuss this with the Do-It team.
Using Public and Community Transport services to get to Day Opportunities
We understand transport can sometimes be challenging, especially in remote areas of the county. However, there are a range of services which can help. These include scheduled bus and train services, the “fflecsi bus” and other Dial-a-Ride services, and community transport options (often provided by volunteer drivers). Many of these services are adapted to help people with mobility difficulties and can pick you up from your home if necessary.
For information and advice about which transport option is right for you, contact PACTO (Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations) on 01437 701123 or transportconnector@pacto.org.uk. Please mention that you are trying to find transport for a PCC Day Opportunity.
