Cynnydd

Transition

All Yr11 and 6th form pupils enrolled on PCC’s Cynnydd programme are discussed at the Vulnerable Transition Meeting.

This meeting is made up of representatives from all local post 16 providers including Pembrokeshire College, Work Based Learning providers, the Targeted Youth Team, Pembrokeshire College Cynnydd Team, Careers Wales and Cam Nesa (another ESF project for young people with barriers to further education – see PCC website Pembrokeshire Youth page for more details).

The aim of this meeting is to discuss and share information on all vulnerable learners to identify support needs and ensure continuation of support where needed.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Cynnydd programme has had a number of successes including:

  • Two pupils attending work placements have secured apprenticeships with the employer upon leaving school
  • One pupil with significant mental health issues who had totally disengaged from school and who had not left his house for over a year reengaged with school on a part time basis and attended a work placement with the support of the Cynnydd Youth Worker. His work placement have offered him a job when he leaves school next year.
  • 326 qualifications have been achieved to date through the Cynnydd Programme
  • 2016-17 only 1 Yr11 Cynnydd participant became NEET. All went on to positive post 16 destinations
  • Cynnydd has supported 577 pupils to date
