Childcare provision for children of critical workers and vulnerable children

*Please note*

Welsh Government will be conducting a further review in August on the position of the Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme (CCAS). Until then, Welsh Government will continue to provide funded childcare for the pre-school age children of critical workers and vulnerable children under the Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme (CCAS).

As of the 24th July 2020, all funding for school aged children will cease. If you child’s birthday falls before 31st March 2016. Your child will not be eligible for the funding from this date.

If your child was originally using the 30 hour childcare offer and you still have holiday provision left, you can access your account and implement/apply/use the remaining weeks, as you previously would have with your original provider

Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme (CCAS)

Childcare Funding for children under 4 years old (pre-school)

Funding is available until the 31st of August 2020 to support with the cost of registered childcare provision for vulnerable children and children of critical workers who must leave the home to carry out their work.

Under the Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme (C-CAS), a parent / guardian is eligible to receive Government-funded childcare if:

  • They have a child, or children, of pre-school age; and
  • They are a critical worker (link to Welsh Government: critical worker)

Parents should only apply for childcare to cover their working hours; and if the child/children cannot be cared for by a spouse or other family members.

Evidence of eligibility of critical worker status will be required as part of the application process:

  • If the letter does not include the name and address of the applicant, please supply a recent payslip

Older siblings who are already being funded to attend a setting with a younger sibling may continue to do so until the end of term (24th of July 2020) at the very latest, but are expected to attend school when it is open. Any applications for older siblings not already receiving CCAS funding will not be allowed. There are very limited exceptions to funding older siblings (new or existing) where an authority may deem it in the best interest of that child/family.

For an application form to book a childcare place under the Coronavirus Childcare Assistance Scheme (CCAS),  please contact:

A confirmation will then be sent to you to confirm your child/children has/have a place.

It is very important that you do not turn up at the childcare settings if you have not received a confirmation email from us.
