Dementia Champions and Social Care staff who wish to gain knowledge and insight into the experience of a person living with dementia.
Participating in a Virtual Dementia Tour session will give a person with a healthy brain the experience of what dementia might be like. By understanding dementia from the person's point of view we can change practice, reduce issues and improve their lives.
The Virtual Dementia Tour deprives participants of their primary senses to simulate the frustration and anxiety those living with the condition face on a daily basis. This innovative training opportunity uses a converted bus to give people a better understanding of dementia, as well as working to improve care standards.
The experience is designed to impair vision, touch and hearing, making it very difficult to understand and interact with the environment.
The practical session will then be followed by a thorough debrief in which participants will reflect on their experience and discuss how this may be used in their work.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have or have ever had Epilepsy, Seizures, Migraines or any heart condition, or are or may be pregnant, it is advisable to discuss your application with SCWDP Training beforehand
