Haverfordwest High VC School
Band - B
Haverfordwest High VC School was established from 1st September 2018 as an 11-19 English medium school following the closure of Tasker Milward VC and Sir Thomas Picton Schools.
On 26th July 2018 Pembrokeshire County Council approved the recommendation of the Task and Finish Group that the business case for 21st Century Schools and Colleges funding should name the former Sir Thomas Picton School site as the preferred site for a new school building.
Following extensive works during 2019 to install additional temporary accommodation and decant all provision from the Prendergast (former Sir Thomas Picton School) site, the school currently operates entirely from the Portfield (former Tasker Milward) site.
The subsequent business cases for a new school building were approved by Welsh Government, and works began constructing the new £48.7m school in November 2020, with completion due in the summer of 2022.
The new building will accommodate 1500 pupils aged 11-16 plus 250 sixth form pupils, and will consist of a two-storey building with a central atrium space which acts as the meeting, dining and social gathering area. New sports facilities include an eight-court sports hall, a floodlit 3G WRU standard rugby pitch and two multi-use games areas. All will be available for community use outside school hours.
The existing athletics track, all-weather pitch, tennis courts and grass pitches will be retained.
Most traffic, including school buses, will enter the site via a new access road off the A40, which will lead directly to a new coach parking/drop-off zone and new car parks for staff and visitors.
