Governor Training Programme

Welcome to our online training pages which cover the next academic year.  Governors will also receive a hard copy of the programme.

We hope that by giving greater notice of forthcoming courses governing bodies will find it easier to discuss whether they will be represented on a course and individual governors can plan their attendance at training. This may include choosing to attend a course at a family of schools other than their own if this is more convenient.

All of the courses we have planned for the next year are listed. This includes those we run each term, those we offer to different families of schools each term and those which we run only once during the year. If we arrange additional courses governors will be informed by email, our website or at their governing body meeting.

What is not listed is the training we can do for your governing body at your school. We have to limit this to those courses which may help the governing body to work better e.g. reviewing the use of committees, or a supported self review of how the governing body works. Where the main purpose of a course is to give information or to improve a governor's understanding of an issue we ask that governors attend a course with governors from other schools so that they can benefit from the sharing of information.

The Programme is designed:

  1. to help individual governors with their role and
  2. to develop the work of a Governing Body as a whole through helping you with reviewing your current work and with planning for the future.

Governor Training & Development Programme 2017/2018

If you would find it more convenient to attend training in one of the other local authorities within the ERW region (Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Powys, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot), you are welcome to do so.  You can access their governor training programmes on the ERW website.  Please click here.
