In simple terms, a Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre is a one-stop shop that enables you to dispose of and recycle your waste.
In recent years, Pembrokeshire County Council has invested heavily in these centres by upgrading them to accommodate more waste streams and also through intensive staff training.
Recycling your waste has never been so easy.
There are six sites in total, the largest being the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre on the Old Hakin Road at Winsel, Haverfordwest. Other sites are located in Manorowen, near Fishguard; St Davids; Crane Cross near Saundersfoot; Waterloo in Pembroke Dock; and Hermon near Crymych.
The Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres are open to all householders and small businesses and will accept a range of household and DIY wastes as indicated in the table "What can I take to the Centres?"
Pembrokeshire County Council's Civic Amenity Sites are not intended for the disposal of large amounts of construction and demolition waste, from either businesses or significant home DIY renovation works. Large quantities of materials will not be accepted and you are recommended to use a licensed skip / waste contractor.
Householders may use the facilities free of charge for normal domestic household waste and recycling. DIY* - building and construction wastes even when they come from a householder are not classed as household wastes and therefore the Authority is not obliged to accept them free of charge. However, small quantities of building and construction waste from small scale DIY projects carried out by members of the public to their own properties will be accepted free of charge with charges payable for larger quantities. The quantities that can be disposed of free of charge are identified in the table "What can I take to the centres?"
*DIY waste includes items generated from building or renovation work that has been fixed, screwed down or cemented to a house or garden. It may include bathroom suites, doors, windows, kitchen units, roofing materials, structural timber, paving, decking, skirting, garden sheds, rubble, fencing, tiles and soil.
We now accept card payment at Crane Cross Civic Amenity & Recycling Centre, Devonshire Drive, New Hedges, Saundersfoot SA69 9EE.
Please note as from 1st September 2017 cheques will not be accepted at Crane Cross Civic Amenity & Recycling Centre.
Trade and business customers will be charged for all of their waste except a range of recyclables.
From January 2014, you need to register as a waste carrier if you regularly transport waste as part of your business. You can be fined up to £5,000 if you don't register.
You must register as a waste carrier if you do any of the following as part of your business:
Please use the following link to register http://www.gov.uk/register-waste-carrier
Site attendants have the right to refuse the disposal of wastes from businesses that are not registered as waste carriers.
The table below identifies what householders and small businesses can take to the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centres and whether a charge applies.
To help us to recycle as much as possible, please sort your waste and recycling at home and place it in the appropriate containers at the Centres. Please ask an attendant for help with manual handling and advice if necessary.
All items highlighted in green are reused or recycled.
