County Councillor Candidates Briefing

The Returning Officer for Pembrokeshire, Ian Westley, will be holding seminars in March for anyone who is considering standing for County Council in the forthcoming local government elections in May.  

The seminars will be held on Monday 13th and Wednesday 15thMarch, in the Committee Rooms, County Hall, Haverfordwest, commencing at 6.00pm.  

The same information will be presented at each seminar, including:    

  • details of the timetable and deadlines
  • the nominations process and completing nomination forms
  • the code of conduct for campaigners
  • spending and donations
  • details regarding the count and postal vote opening arrangements
  • and other matters relating to the election process.

Notice of Election

The Notice of Election will be published on the 21st March 2017.  A copy of the notice will be available here as soon as it is published.

Nominations Period

Nominations papers must be delivered, by hand, to the Returning Officer, Ian Westley, County Hall, Haverfordwest, between the hours of 9.00am and 5.00pm on any working day during the period commencing the 22nd March 2017 and ending at 4.00pm on Tuesday 4th April 2017.

The Electoral Commission has published guidance for candidates and agents at local elections in Wales this includes information on Can you stand for election?' and information on Spending and donations and the Code of conduct for campaigners in Great Britain.

Prospective Candidates are strongly advised to view this information.

Candidates are entitled to a free copy of the full register and absent voters lists for the electoral area in which they are standing.  To access these documents you will need to complete and return the request forms below.  You will not be able to access these documents until the 1st March, unless you are entitled to them by other means.

Local Elections Candidates Survey

The diversity of the candidates standing for local elections and those who are elected is being monitored by the Welsh Government. 

All Candidates are being urged to complete this survey.

Postal Vote Opening

Provisional arrangements have been made for postal vote opening to take place in County Hall commencing on the 24th April 2017.   Further information will be provided in due course.

Verification and Counting of Votes

The verification will take place immediately following the poll on the 4th May 2017.  The count will take place on 5th May 2017, commencing at 9am.  Further information will be provided in due course.
