SCHOOL CROSSING PATROLS ARE NOT JUST FOR CHILDREN

PATROL OFFICERS MAY ASSIST ANYONE WHO SEEKS THEIR HELP IN CROSSING THE ROAD

Many schools have a 'lollipop' person operating nearby. Wherever you know a Crossing Patrol operates, please give them every consideration and assistance by:

  • Parking well away from them. (They need to see and be seen by approaching traffic).
  • Always reducing your speed and be prepared to STOP!
  • Obeying their instructions when signalled to STOP!
  • Giving them time to cross the children safely and return back to the pavement.

It is an offence under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 if you do not stop when signalled to do so by a school crossing patrol.

If you do not stop, the possible penalites include:

  • a fine of up to £1000
  • three penalty points
  • disqualification

After People have crossed the road, you must not move off until the patrol has signalled you to do so.
