Shoreline Management Plans are non-statutory documents that set out strategic policies designed to assist coastal defence decision making for a defined length of coast over the next100 years (WAG/DEFRA 2006) with revisions typically every 5 years. The SMPs aim to identify sustainable coastal defence and tidal flood protection options based upon economic and social criteria, whilst having an overview of both the natural environment and the human and built environment. They will reflect predictions in climate change and sea level rise. We are preparing new plans for the Pembrokeshire coast in partnership with other coastal authorities
