About the town of Pembroke
Set in South West Wales, this charming walled town dates back over 900 years and is famous for its majestic Norman Castle, one of Britain's finest and the birthplace of King Henry VII.
Along Main Street with its Georgian buildings, you'll find a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The millpond runs parallel to Main Street and is a peaceful spot to watch the swans, herons, ducks and other water birds. You may even be lucky enough to spot an otter.
Pembroke is also the perfect base from which to explore the stunning countryside and coastline. For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are many opportunities in the area for walking, rock climbing, water sports, cycling, including a purpose built cycle trail, fishing and golf.
Apart from the castle there are many other attractions to visit, the visitor is spoilt for
choice for things to do and see in and around Pembroke including:
St Govans Chapel, a place of pilgrimage throughout the centuries, even to this day.
Bishop’s Palace, Lamphey, steeped in history and now in the care of Cadw (Welsh Historic Monuments).
Freshwater West Beach, well known and well loved by surfers worldwide.
Bosherston Lily Ponds, offering tranquil and enjoyable short walks.
Barafundle Bay, one of many fine, unspoilt beaches within easy reach of Pembroke.
Pembroke Town Council
The Council is composed of 15 members or councillors, each of whom is elected for a four year maximum term of office.
Apart from the month of August, full Council meetings are held at the Town Hall on a three weekly cycle and are open to the general public except where personal or confidential matters are being discussed.
The Council is continually striving in partnership with other organisations to improve the town, encourage tourism and to secure a safe and prosperous future for the residents. Planning and licensing applications are also discussed to make observations on applications submitted to Pembrokeshire County Council. Details of all meetings are posted on the Council notice board and copies of the minutes are held at the council offices, Pembroke Library and on the Pembroke town council (opens new window) website.
