Temporary road closures and traffic restrictions for street works can be implemented by the Authority under Sec.14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. A road can be closed or a restriction imposed on traffic (e.g. temporary speed limit, one way flow) for a period of up to 5 days by notice (21days for emergencies), or for a duration of up to 18 months by order.
A minimum of 4 weeks notice is required for a short term closure and 6 weeks for closures or restrictions of up to 18 months. Administration fees apply in both cases and for closures of more than 5 days advertising costs are also applicable.
The applicant will be responsible for ensuring that advance notification is given to affected residents and businesses, the relevant public notices are posted on site and that adequate closure and diversionary signage is provided and maintained.
