Pembrokeshire County Council

Householders are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote ahead of the forthcoming General Election.

Although the date for the election is not yet known, Pembrokeshire County Council's Electoral Services Office is urging residents not to wait until the date is announced before they secure the right to vote.

In order to vote in the General Election, an individual's name needs to be on the electoral register.

Citizens have until Wednesday, 10th March to go on the register for 1st April, 2010. A later deadline will be given when the election is called.

People who have moved house recently are especially urged to check that they are on the register.

"When you change your address, you need to re-register with your new details" stressed the Council's Electoral Services Manager, Glynne Morgan.

"Just because you are paying Council Tax at your new address doesn't automatically mean that you will be on the Electoral Register there. You need to contact us separately. This applies whether you have bought your home or you are renting."

To check if you are registered to vote or to request a registration form, contact the Electoral Services office at 8 High Street, Haverfordwest  or ring the special election helpline on 01437 775844 or email: electoralservices@pembrokeshire.gov.uk

Alternatively a registration form can be printed off from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
