Haverfordwest gained its name through a combination of being the first place on the river that allowed a safe opportunity to ford the Western Cleddau, and from the old English word haefer, meaning buck or he-goat. Together, Haefer-ford-west was formed meaning the place where goats crossed the river.
This market town is full of history, tales and landmarks which illustrate its varied past. With such a tale to tell, a visit to Haverfordwest Information centre is a must.
The Information Centre itself, is housed in a Grade II listed building, formally used as a grain store and a hardware store, before it became an information centre in 1996. Inside the friendly and knowledgeable staff are ready to assist you any way they can.
