Title of Project: Pembrokeshire Produce Mark
What have we done?
The Pembrokeshire Produce Mark identity scheme was launched in 2000. It provides an instantly recognisable identity logo. It denotes that the produce you are buying has been made in Pembrokeshire, that hospitality establishments displaying the logo use local produce within their menu and that retail outlets displaying the logo sell local produce within their shop. The scheme includes craft also. All members are verified for authenticity by the Council's public protection service before they areable to use the Pembrokeshire Produce scheme within their marketing. The scheme currently has 280 members.
What are we trying to achieve and why is it important?
The Pembrokeshire Produce Mark scheme assists the general public and visitors to the county in sourcing and experiencing locally produced food and craft as well as providing a brand loyalty. It also assists the hospitality and retail industry in sourcing local produce.
The scheme also assists in bridging the gap between the producer and end user, and plays an important role in the economic development of local producers.
As the general interest in local and regional foods is increasing nationally, the scheme is also assisting in promoting the county as a good food destination. By encouraging more use of local suppliers and produce, the scheme also assists in sustainability and reducing food miles.
How is it benefiting you?
The Pembrokeshire Produce scheme can assist you in sourcing and purchasing local produce. By utilising and choosing local produce, you are assisting local businesses, the economy of the county and the sustainability of rural areas, as well as the environment by reducing food miles.
Evidence
Positive feed back gathered from surveys in the visitor guides, Pembrokeshire food guide, and Pembrokeshire Art and Craft guide, telling of the experiences of eating and using local produce throughout there visit has been assisted by the Pembrokeshire Produce mark.
Producers have seen an increase in enquiries and use of their produce by the hospitality and retail sector, who in turn view the use of local produce and the identity logo of Pembrokeshire Produce as integral to their marketing.
